Access to Public Records
The Village Clerk-Treasurer is designated to be the records access officer, who shall have the duty of coordinating responses to public request for access to records. The records are located at the Village Office, and requests to produce records shall be made during the normal business hours. Such requests shall be in writing in detail, upon the application form supplied by the records access officer. The request shall either be complied with or denied within five business days of receipt. If access is denied, an appeal may be taken within 30 days to the Board of Trustees, which shall hear appeals regarding said denial within 30 days of receipt of notice of appeal. The denial shall be in writing and shall include advice to the applicant of the right to appeal to the Board of Trustees.
NOTE: Death Certificates do NOT fall under the FOIL law. If you're looking for a death or birth certificate you must call the registrar at 887.6300 (if they passed/were born in the Village)
Except when a different fee is otherwise prescribed by law there shall be no fee for the inspection of records or search for records.
The Village shall charge the following fees for copies of records:
The fee for copying records shall be $0.25 per page for photocopies not exceeding nine inches by 14 inches or the maximum fee allowed by law.
The fee for copies of records not covered by Subsection B shall be the actual cost incurred to reproduce the record. (11" x 17" are $1.00 a copy)
