Richard Braverman attended the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, starting with Woodmere Elementary School, then Woodmere Junior High School and then graduating from GW Hewlett High School. After High School, he attended and graduated from Tufts University with an AB degree in Government and French and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiqes in Paris, France, with a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques.
An attorney, he graduated from the Columbia University School of Law in 1965. In his career, he has served as a mediator, and is currently serving as the elected Village Justice in the Village of East Rockaway.
He has served on many Boards, including the Hewlett-Woodmere School Board for 21 years and served as President of that body for 12 years. Hew also has been a member of the Five Towns Senior Center board, and currently is serving his 8th year as President. He is also a member of the Board of Temple Am Echad in Lynbrook, and served two years as President of that organization. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of The Nassau Land Trust. Richard has been married to his wife Judi for 56 years. They have two children, Shari Braverman, currently President of the Hewlett Woodmere Public Library, and Peter Braverman, former Commodore of the Woodmere Bay Yacht Club in East Rockway.
